well, i don't really NEED help, but i do want help.
in uni, this whole term is dedicated to studying an activity, involving around 10 people. we are going to make cubist paintings, collages, video montages and digital representations of this activity, and after christmas, our two terms are dedicated to designing a building to house the activity. it seems that most of my class want to do some form of dancing, because it should be an activity with a distinct pattern that we can make diagrams of and eventually draw in plans and sections. AND it should be an activity that we are interested in, because after all we will be spending half a year studying it. which does sound really interesting, but you know, i don't feel up to drawing salsa dancing every day.
AND, it can not be a sport, because sport arenas are too big for the scope of the project, so there's volleyball out the window.
i need your creative input on this one! i was thinking about kathakali dancing, which i think would be pretty cool, but how on earth will i find a kathakali group in glasgow?
hmm.
input?
quick?

Well I was going to suggest craigslist, but then I looked at Glasgow's craigslist just in case and I didn't find anything about kathakali. But must it be dancing? What about:
-circus arts! (ie trapezes)
-tai chi (do they do that in the parks there?)
-drinking
-protesting whatever ... just find your local anarchist group and see what they are up in arms about. you could do a whole project just on protest! protest the slaughter of the little birdies, protest the war in iraq, protest smoking being banned on campus, whatever
-is there a critical mass in glasgow? like many bicycle riders all together? that would be good because you are getting all into bike riding. yes!!! that's what i think you should do!!! and there is critical mass in glasgow!!! and bicycles are pretty and you can make nifty drawings out of them. http://glasgowcriticalmass.wordpress.com/, czech it out.
oh wait, is that a sport? but it's not competitive, and it's more of a demonstration than a sport.
thank you for quick reply!
hmm... i think the only problem is that it would be kind of hard to design a small building for biking in. and also, if i design a building for people to protest in, nobody will see them! (we are not allowed to do drinking, they had some bad experience with that last year, hehe)
hmmm... i will check out the critical mass. and maybe i can do yoga or tai chi, because they do that in parks here, yes. and that would be a good way for me to get into yoga. i also thought about meditation, but that might be a bit lame to make a video of, hehe. maybe if i do it really creatively. plus, i'd get to hang out at my local buddhist centre, which would be cool. and i could show everyone pictures from our lovely spiritual journey through north india!
hmm i want to do something i have pictures of. maybe i'll look in the muwci yearbook and see if any of the activities/creations are suitable... oh and my new head of class is from virginia! (just thought it would be worth mentioning. hehe. he's pretty cool and it's nice to have some americans around you know.)
i found bharatnatyam classes! i may very well start going to them. that would be cool.
